Several years ago my friend was baking a turkey for a church event. I had never made a turkey, because I always go to my parent’s house for the holidays. I was really impressed with how simple her recipe was and decided to try it.
Ever since then, I have made many turkey dinners, and I always get a great response. I wanted to share it with you today!
This recipe requires cooking over night, and it is important not to open the oven. This is not a recipe where you can stuff the turkey with dressing.
You will need:
- 1 turkey
- 1 onion
- 1 bunch celery
- 1 apple
- 1 can chicken broth
- 1 stick butter at room temperature
- 2 quarts of water
This is so unbelievably easy! Heat your oven to 500 degrees. Place your turkey in the pan. Pull out the pieces inside the turkey. Chop the onion, celery and onion into 3 or 4 pieces and stuff inside your turkey. Rub your turkey with the softened butter and top with salt and pepper plus any seasoning of your choice if desired. I usually sprinkle a little poultry seasoning and sage on top of my turkey, but not always.
Place your turkey in the pan and pour the chicken broth and water in the bottom. Put the lid on your turkey, if your pan doesn’t seal, then seal the edges with foil. Bake turkey for 2 hours. Then turn off your oven, and let sit over night. Do not open the oven.
